  • $26.5million second stage of northern suburbs school completed
  • School boasts cutting-edge technology

Premier Colin Barnett and Education Minister Liz Constable today officially opened the $26.5million second stage of Ashdale Secondary College in Darch.

The milestone will enable the Independent Public School to expand to 1,200 students in 2013, catering for Perth's rapidly growing northern suburbs population.

Mr Barnett said families now had access to one of the most technologically advanced schools in the State.

"Facilities at Ashdale Secondary College are first rate, with features such as wireless technology throughout the school," he said.

"Together with its innovative architectural design and substantial educational programs, the college is well placed as a specialist science and technology school for generations to come."

New facilities built in stage two included:

  • a two-storey senior school block
  • a physical education block with fitness centre and basketball courts
  • a two-storey science and food block, including two chemistry and four multi-purpose laboratories
  • design and technology studios
  • covered walkways and seating areas.

Dr Constable said the building project had brought students, teachers and the community together.

"The new facilities reflect the school's educational philosophy, which is to engage young people in learning and providing a welcoming environment for the community," she said.

Restoration works to the middle school classrooms destroyed last year in a fire will also be completed in time for second term.

"The State Government is committed to providing high quality school environments for Western Australia's public school students," Dr Constable said.
